Dream Interpretations - Distinguishing Dreams
Distinguishing Between Prophetic And Subconscious Dreams
Before you begin to study your dreams and try to interpret what they may mean for you, you must not forget that the first step is to learn to distinguish between a prophetic dream and a dream which is emanating purely from your subconscious and is not prophetic as such .
Prophetic Dreams usually occur during the deepest part of the dream cycle, when the body is totally relaxed and the mind is really ’somewhere else’. Dreams, present in these circumstances are usually worth interpreting in the light of whether or not they could be prophetic.
Of course, most of us do not know when this state occurs, as we are asleep and unaware. So let’s look at the Types Of Dreams:
Persistent or recurrent dreams can almost always be traced to physical or psychological causes. These may be prophetic innature, but if so, are usually more of a personal ‘reminder’ to you.
However, some dream theorists have argued that persitent dreams which occur only two or three times should be seriously considered as prophetic.
Dreams which can be regarded as almost always not prophetic are as follows:
- A dream experienced after overindulgence in alcolol just before bedtime.
- Dreams occurring as a result of real physical conditions. An example is of the man who dreamed he was being attacked by a tiger, only to wake up to find that one of the bridges in his teeth has fallen out and was cutting into his thigh.
- Another example of a purely physical dream would be of being abandoned and cold on a high mountain top, only to wake up and find a cold wond whistling throgh yur bedroom window and that you had shrugged all the covers off.
- Hearing noises in your dreams which you cannot account for and which have no relevance, only towake up to hear the alarm clock or the telephone ringing.
- If you are feeling very sad or very afraid, that may affect your dreams. The images you see will most likely relate to your sadness and fear and hardly ever be prophetic.
- If you are physically ill, suffering from a temperature, infectin or shock, then this can affect your dreams (and dream patterns) as well and is unlikely to be prophetic.
- If you have been watching a disturbing film or TV show or something horrible on the News, then this can also affect your dreaming experience and is not likely to be prophetic.
- If you have been worrying about someone close to you in the last fewdays and then dreamabut them ina disturbing way, this is much more likely to be down to your fears for them thanprophetic.
In fact, it is perhaps true to say that dreams which can be categorized as ‘prophetic’ are much more likely to arrive ‘out of the blue’ with no apparant reason for them whatsoever.
There are some types of dreams which you may experience again and again and they are the type of dream which most of us experience at some time. You are much more likely to remember these dreams simply because of their reoccurrence and because they may disturb you. These dreams may be of the type of your subconscious warning you about something. But dreams of this nature can most likely only be seen as prophetic if you cannot account for them according to any of the reasons given above.
Universal, non-prophetic dreams can be divided into the following categories:
- Falling
- Being helpless and feeling in danger of some irresistible force
- Finding yourself nude or near-nude and being unable to cover yourself.
- Floating or flying through space
- You are facing obvious danger but cannot find assistance anywhere.
- You are unable to get away from the imminent danger.
Unless the dreamer can be absolutely sure that no external physical cause existed for those dreams, they should not be considered prophetic.
However, the next section will be looking at Prophetic Dreams and how we can learn to interpret them.
