Interpreting Dreams and Discovering the Meanings Of Prophetic Dreams

In order to develop Spiritual and Psychic Awareness, the study of our dreams is a very important factor. However, as we saw in the section on Distinguishing Our Dreams, many of our dreams, although important to interpret and understand, are of the subconscious or physical type only.

Nevertheless, when these factors are missing, we have to come to the conclusion that some dreams are Prophetic Dreams and to understand these, we need to be able to interpret them corectly.
.
Prophetic dreams usually belong to one of the following categories:

  • PRECOGNITIVE Dreams - an interpretation which usually predicts that the major events
  • WARNING Dreams - an interpretation, which could indicate imminent danger
  • FACTUAL Dreams - the interpretation of the ‘facts’ of this dream will reinforces a concern already felt, or a situation in which the dreamer already knows about.
  • INSPIRATIONAL Dreams - in interpretating this type of dream, you are able to find a solution to a problem or take a course of action to enable you to solve the problem.

The Interpretation of Dreams, like all other knowledge, is much more interesting and effective with practice. Like any skill we aquire, dream interpretation requires time and effort to understand and to work with effectively.

Interpreting dreams requires learning about the signs and symbols our dreams present us with and working out what these mean historically and for us as individuals.

Dream symbols are the language of our unconscious. They help us understand not only how to solve problems, but to unerstand ourselves at a spiritual level.

General Guidelines for Dream Interpretation:

  • It is usually considered that any act or event in which the dreamer is not personally involved, but merely an observer is a warning.
  • However, when the dreamer is actually one of the participants in the events occuring in the dream, the dream’s message is usually interpreted to say that this is a matter which affects the dreamer personally.

Dream Symbols

Below is a list of general rules to be considered for dream interpretation (but remember, this is a starting guide - if these symbols come to mean something different to you after mediating on them or working with your guides, then use your own definitions):

  • Clean or bright objects, usually depicts that conditions surrounding and within the dreamer are good.
  • Dirty or boring objects, usually mean the opposite to clean and bright , in that there are obstacles or problems for the dreamer to overcome.
  • Climbing or going up to the top is usually seen are showing success or improvment in some aspect of your life or spiritual development. However, if the climb is chaotic, or there are feelings of danger, this could denote stress with a ‘highflying’ environment or feeling pressure to succeed.
  • Going down is usually interpreted as losing out on success or achievement in some way, but if there is a sense of release with this, then it can be interpreted as ‘going with the flow’ and not feeling under pressure to compete any more.
  • Nevertheless, sometimes dreams can mean the opposite of what we experience in them. For instance dreaming about successful efforts may be seen to forecast difficulties if we have yet to apply the efforts needed to succeed.
  • A dream about illness or disease to oneself should always be taken as a warning as it could be our body’s way of telling us there is something we need to get checked out. So in this case, it is always adviseable to go a little deeper and listen to your body if you have a dream like this. Take stock of how you are feeling and if you find something of concern, then please see a medical practitioner.
  • However, in cases like the latter, if we have any other reasons for having an ‘illness’ dream (watching a worrying TV program, etc) then we can probaby disregard it as precognitive.
  • Dreams where close family members are involved in a pleasant way are often interpreted as to do with successful business ventures or achievements in your life. However, if unpleasant conditions develop in a dream like this, the reverse is most likely predicted and it would be a good idea to take stock of where you canimporove your chances of success.

However, in order to interpret dreams with a degree of accuracy, we need to be aware that:

Dreams are made up of several elements.

Usually there is one part of the dream which bears most significance to us and this will probably stand out and be most memorable. This will most likely be ‘the key part’ of our dream’s message.

However, we cannot see the elements of our dreams as isolated, however important one particular element may appear to be. All parts of the dream will mean something in relation to the ‘key part’. They may often appear discordant or completely irrelevant, but they will play a part in relation to each other, so we need to interpret our dreams in this light.

An example of taking into account all dream elements:

You may dream about entering a strange house and going from room to room. ‘House dreams’ are often associated with one’s body, and the room you end up in is usually seen as the part of your body you need to concentrate on, or are having problems with (for instance, the kitchen will usually be about your stomach, whilst the attic could be to do with something on your mind). However, you may notice the furniture in the rooms as you pass through them and this could be significant too, as can the feelings you get in each room. So, in this case, your dream will be about your body, but it is up to you to look at the smaller elements to work out why your dream is focusing on this.

However, before you begin to interpret your dreams as prophetic in some way, do not forget to check for other factors of influence first.

For example, make sure that the ‘vivid dream’ you have just had was not to do with eating the wrong food the night before…

Defining the elements of a prophetic dream:

Usually the most vivid element, or the one you remember the quickest when you wake up is the most important dream element. In this case, you need to take this as the main element of your dream, but see it in relation to all the other parts.

The actual vividness of your dream can be interpreted as how important the message of that dream is. A dream remembered and felt with extreme brightness and clarity is obviously one to be taken more seriously than a dream you struggle to remember. The latter probably has little significance (and in any case, will be experienced with more vividness the next time, if your unconscious is really trying to tell you something important.

Timing and Proximity in Dreams

If you see something in the distance in your dream, then it is usually interpreted as being far away in time and space.

For instance, if you see a bunch of red roses in your dream you may interpret these as love and contentment. However, if the roses are far away from you, the love and contentment may be in the future and your dream is telling you either that you are on the right path and eventually you will achieve this, or the dream is warning you that in order to achieve love and contentment, there is something you need to work on more or else these will remain distant.

The main factor here, as with all dream interpretations, is to see the message within it’s surrounding parts and interpret the dream’s message in relation to these and what the symbols mean to you and your guides.

Contradictory Dream Messages:

If, whilst trying to interpret your dream, you discover that there are small elements of it which contradict with the main message, this is usually seen as demonstrating that the resolution of the message given may be delayed for some time and will probably be altered somewhat by small events (the small contradictory elements).

The main thing to remember with dream interpretation is to look at the dream in relation to all its parts and what the parts and the symbols conveyed mean to you.

This, of course, is an important factor to all courses of Spiritual and Psychic Development.
